BILL C-9

This bill, a proposed law to amend the Criminal Code, aims to update Canada’s hate-crime laws by:

  • Creating new offences in the Criminal Code for intimidation and obstruction that impedes someone’s access to places like places of worship, schools, or senior residences.

  • Making hate-motivated conduct  a specific offence, clarifying how hate crimes are defined and prosecuted.

  • Criminalizing the willful promotion of hatred against identifiable groups by displaying certain hate or terrorist symbols in public.

  • Adding a statutory definition of “hatred” to clarify the law.

  • Removing the requirement that the Attorney General must consent before hate propaganda charges can proceed, meaning police could lay these charges without that prior approval.

In effect, expressing your opinion could be interpreted as a hate crime and result in criminal charges.  If this passes, there is a potential for unprecedented, extreme persecution of Christians in Canada. We ask that you join us in prayer that this proposal does not become law.
